Cranberries are an important part of our holiday meals and other recipes, ranging from cranberry sauce during Thanksgiving and Christmas to jams, granola, banana-cranberry bread, cookies and many others. A favorite is leftover turkey and cranberry-sauce sandwich. But cranberries are more than just a turkey sandwich, as laboratory studies indicate that flavonoid-rich cranberry extract, including polyphenols and proanthocyanidins, can prevent or retard the spread of malignant cells into surrounding tissue, by triggering cell death, slowing cell growth, and reducing inflammation in esophageal, prostate, bladder, ovarian, and lung cancer cells. But please by organic. And as always, please consult your physician and/or homeopathic professional before making any dietary or lifestyle changes.
